Q&A
How do we align cancer claims to volunteers who attend infrequently (e.g., one turnout per week, six months a year)?
Presumptive legislation is based on a time-weighted average of exposure over years of service, not the number of fires attended. If a firefighter has served for the minimum required period for a given cancer type (ranging from 5–25 years depending on cancer), they automatically qualify regardless of call frequency.
