Q&A

Are diesel particulate extraction (point-of-capture) systems being installed in Australian stations?

Yes — approximately 35 FRV stations in Victoria already have point-of-capture systems with a target of 85. Projects also exist in WA, South Australia, and Canberra. New Zealand requires point-of-capture at all fire stations (volunteer and career). Cost is a barrier: approximately $140,000 per bay for rail systems. Interim measure: start trucks, move them outside, close bay doors before exhaust re-enters.
